Authors: LEGADA, KRISTINE MAE F. LAZO, HYACINT ERICH P. HUSAIN, CRIZLE KATE F. LIRAZAN, EVANGELINE RAGOSTA, LYAN KIM A. ABERILLA, VERA V.

Abstract This study aimed to determine the relationship between road safety education and knowledge on road signages among road users in Toril District, Davao City. The study utilized a quantitative descriptive-correlational and predictive research design involving 150 licensed drivers selected through purposive sampling. Data were gathered using a validated researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product- Moment Correlation, and linear regression. The findings revealed that road safety education among respondents was very high, while knowledge on road signages was only high. The practical driving test obtained the highest result, whereas the automated driving course obtained the lowest. Respondents showed stronger knowledge of regulatory signs, but warning signs received the lowest result, indicating difficulty in interpreting hazard-related situations. The study also found a significant but weak positive relationship between road safety education and knowledge on road signages. The study concluded that road safety education becomes more effective when reinforced through actual driving experience and continuous exposure to real road conditions. Future studies may explore other factors influencing drivers’ understanding of road signages, particularly behavioral, environmental, and local road culture factors. ABSTRACT This study explores the utilization of the Crime Information, Reporting, and Analysis System (CIRAS) within the Philippine National Police (PNP) and assesses its effectiveness in improving police operations. Focusing on 19 police stations in Davao City, the research investigates how CIRAS is used for report generation, crime trend analysis, statistical reporting, and crime mapping, as well as how it supports decision-making, resource allocation, proactive policing, and quick response. Using a descriptive-correlational design, the study gathered data through surveys distributed to CIRAS-operating personnel, with results showing a very high level of system usage and effectiveness. A moderate positive correlation was found between the extent of utilization and operational effectiveness, indicating that consistent use of CIRAS contributes to better-informed and more responsive policing. The findings highlight the system’s crucial role in enabling data-driven law enforcement and emphasize the need for continuous training and system improvements to maximize its potential in crime prevention and public safety. Authors: Galabo, Denice Christel B. Gerondio, Mika Skittles C. Galicia, Joemar T. Jr. Cadungog, Gina II T. Togoy, Andy R. Jr. Peladas, Jetrex A. Monisit, Glenn C.

ABSTRACT Evaluating public trust in the Philippine National Police (PNP) through the experiences and observations of the community is vital for assessing the effectiveness of police service, identifying areas for improvement, and fostering strong police-community relations to sustain public confidence. The main objectives of this study is to unpack the experiences and to account the insights shared by the community members regarding public trust in the Philippine National Police. The researchers used phenomenological qualitative research method and data were collected through in-depth interview using a purposive sampling technique with a total of 10 participants among the residents of Toril, Davao City. Assessing the community’s trust is beneficial to the people as it helps ensure that their concerns, needs, and expectations of public services — such as safety, fairness, and accountability — are recognized and addressed. It promotes better communication between the authorities and the public, strengthens cooperation, improves the quality of services, and builds a safer, more trusting, and more harmonious community. The study found that community trust in the Philippine National Police (PNP) is influenced by both local experiences and broader political factors, with past abuses and leadership actions shaping current views. Positive and negative emotional experiences play a key role in affecting public trust and cooperation. Community members also see the potential for meaningful change through stronger professionalism, transparency, and accountability within the police force. Authors: VILLALONGJA, MICHAEL ANGELO G. BAUTISTA, MARC ARTHUR C. COMPAS, AL-DAKHIEL B MIRANDA, MARC IAN G. CANGAS, ESSA MAE E. ONUTAN, JOMARI C. ROVIC, AYCO C.

Abstract This study explored the lived experiences of barangay responders in Inawayan, Davao City, in handling incidents of human-inflicted harm. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, the research examined both the challenges (“pains”) and benefits (“gains”) that responders encounter in the course of their service. Data were gathered from selected participants through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically to capture their personal narratives and coping strategies. Findings revealed that responders face significant physical risks, emotional distress, resource limitations, and community pressure while performing their duties. At the same time, they experience meaningful gains such as community respect, personal growth, resilience, and a deepened sense of purpose. The study further identified adaptive coping mechanisms, including peer support, faith, distraction techniques, and resilience-building practices, that enable responders to sustain their commitment despite adversities. These insights underscore the dual realities of sacrifice and fulfillment in barangay response work. The results of this study may inform policy development, training, and psychosocial support systems aimed at enhancing the safety, well-being, and effectiveness of community-based first responders. Keywords: barangay responders, human-inflicted harm, lived experiences, pains and gains.

Authors: Buragay, Gelyka June P. Garcia, Joshua Zyrille S. Yee, Jasmine Abigail B. Delig, Princess Kylle C. Bancure, Yuki Marie R. Endino, Sarah Mae O. Aguhob, Angelica A.

Abstract This study assessed the perceived level of implementation and extent of effectiveness of Davao City's No Single-Use Plastic Ordinance in Toril Poblacion, Davao City, as viewed by 385 residents. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational design with convenience sampling, the research examined the level of implementation through six components: plastic usage, plastic disposal, and the single-use plastic refusal campaign. The extent of effectiveness was evaluated based on behavioral change, plastic waste reduction, and public awareness and education. The findings revealed a high perceived level of implementation and effectiveness, with a significant positive relationship between the two. These results indicate that enforcing such ordinances, promoting community engagement, and using local digital platforms to continuously spread the message for a sustainable environment are key to fostering environmental awareness and change. The study supports the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors to ensure access to affordable eco-friendly products. The research concludes with recommendations for localized strategies, stronger enforcement, and continuous public reinforcement to cultivate an environmentally friendly mindset. This study further emphasizes that this initiative is more than just regulatory compliance; it's about fostering a greater voluntary shift toward sustainability. Abstract This study examines the relationship between the implementation of the ROTC program and the extent of its effectiveness on character formation among First Year Criminology students at Davao Central College. Employing a descriptive research design, the study utilized a sample of First Year Criminology students who participated in the ROTC program. Findings indicate a very high level of ROTC program implementation across military training, leadership training, and patriotism. Similarly, the extent of character formation was found to be very high in terms of military discipline, leadership orientation, and patriotic inclination. While leadership training showed the highest implementation rating, leadership orientation had a relatively lower rating in character formation, and patriotism had the lowest implementation rating. The study suggests that the ROTC program has a significant positive association with character formation. Further efforts are recommended to enhance the practical application of leadership skills and to strengthen the implementation of patriotism within the program.
